Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

My username or password isn't working, who do I contact?
Your login credentials are the same username and password that you use to log in to the main COPAA website. If you need to reset your username or password, please click here. If you need additional assistance, please contact membership@copaa.org.

I do not have a username and password, how do I access the online training catalog?
You can view our training opportunities without logging in, but if you want to enroll in classes or learning paths or register to a live event, you must have a COPAA login. You can join COPAA as a member to access member discounts on our online training opportunities and members-only content that is complimentary with your membership. For more information on how to become a member, click here. You can also become a COPAA registered guest to login to our training catalog and purchase available items for guests at a non-member rate

How do I find training that fits my interests?
When you click on your profile, you can select your interest areas so the recommendations provided are accurate. You can also search our online training catalog by topic (parent, attorney, advocate, FAPE, LRE, Progress Monitoring and Goals, etc.) and/or by type (class, learning path, webinar)

Where do I find information on your Special Education Advocate Training (SEAT) classes?
Please click here to learn more about our SEAT classes. When registration is open for one of our classes, all COPAA members and registered guests will receive a registration email. You'll also find the class registration link in the class description when registration is open, as well as class dates and costs. Please note our classes fill up quickly, so you'll want to register as soon as registration opens.

Which class should I take?
If you are beginning your non-attorney special education advocacy journey (less than 2 years of experience attending IEP meetings with parents) you should begin with SEAT 1.0. We recommend you start with SEAT 1.0, even if you have experience as a teacher or school administrator and/or have experience advocating for your child(ren). SEAT 2.0 is an intermediate-level class that assumes you've seen a multitude of different IEPs and have experience advocating on behalf of parents directly (which has different best practices, roadblocks, etc. that working within a school district).

If you are an attorney, click here to learn more about COPAA's attorney class.

What certificates and certifications do you offer?
We offer certificates of completion after successfully completing SEAT 1.0 and SEAT 2.0. We offer certificates of attendance after completing a learning path. If a learning path offers a certificate, it is noted in the class description. Your certificates are housed in your dashboard and can be printed and viewed at any time after completing.

The field of non-attorney special education advocacy is not currently regulated, therefore, we do not offer certification training. Certification industry standards require that the body overseeing certification be an independent governing body separate from the group that administers training or study guides, and that such governing board should be comprised of knowledgeable and experienced members representative of the field in which the individual is going to be certified, and be comparable in size with standard size of governing boards. For more information on the difference between certificates and certifications, click here.

Do you offer CLEs?
Yes, COPAA offers the opportunity to earn 24 CLEs with our attorney class. Click here for more information on COPAA's attorney class.
We also offer the opportunity to earn CLEs at COPAA's annual conference.

We are adding more self-study CLE options to our Learning Center. We currently have webinars that offer 1 hour of CLE self-study units for COPAA Attorney members, attendance is verified through the our online system and a certificate is automatically provided upon completion of the webinar.  The Attorney Roundtables also offer 1 hour self-study CLE units, attendance is verified through Zoom and a certificate is manually created and emailed to you.

What is your refund policy?
Our refund policy for our classes can be found on the appropriate class registration. If you are not accepted into a class, students receive a full refund. If you cancel within the cancelation timeframe provided in the class registration, you receive a refund minus an admin fee. If you cancel after the timeframe provided in your registration, you will not receive a refund. If you have additional questions about refunds, please email copaa@copaa.org.

What is the difference between an on-demand learning path and an online class?
COPAA's classes and our on-demand learning paths are both 100% online.

Our classes have a schedule of assignments, required course readings and materials to review by a specific dates, and online live sessions to attend. You are given the opportunity to ask questions live, participate in interactive activities to deepen your learning, and receive personalized feedback from a Teaching Assistant (TA) on your assignments. You are also able to contact your TA in between class sessions for clarifying questions.

Learning paths are designed as an alternative to classes for those who prefer a self-paced experience without a set schedule of completion. There are no live sessions to attend, which also mean live Q&As are not offered with learning paths though you may post questions in the online forum.

Learning Path Certificates
Many of our learning paths offer certificates at the conclusion of the learning path. If there is a certificate, it will be noted in the learning path description. Our learning paths with certificates have a minimum time requirement set on the video.

The Learning Center counts the minutes when the video is seen by registrants and a minimum viewing time is set.

If the registrant starts the video, but minimizes the window that time isn't counted. If the registrant starts the video but covers it with another window or selects a different tab, the time isn't counted. The viewing time is cumulative, so you do not need to review the entire video in one sitting.
